Discrete Trial Training (DTT) in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a progressive approach to teaching and learning. BCBA Sarah Burby reviews this approach in the latest Hacking ABA video. In the video, Sarah explains the traditional approach to DTT, as well as a newer 3 guideline approach. This approach is based on the research of Cooper, Heron, and Heward (2020), Green (2001), Grow and LeBlanc (2013), Grow, Kodak, and Carr (2014), Leaf, Cihon, Leaf, McEachin, and Taubman (2016), and Leaf, Leaf, McEachin, Taubman, Ala’i-Rosales, Ross, et al. (2016).
The video provides an overview of the principles of DTT, including the use of prompts, reinforcement, and shaping. It also provides an overview of the 3 guideline approach, which includes the use of a structured environment, a consistent teaching style, and a focus on teaching skills that are meaningful to the learner.
