This course, Financial Accounting Primer, is designed to make accounting a more friendly course for those who are about to take financial accounting, those who would like to better understand financial accounting, and those who do not have a background in accounting but may need to deal with the accounting department. Through this course, students will gain an understanding of accounting, learn the truth behind the ‘math’ misunderstanding of accounting, get a primer in accounting by understanding what accounting reports, be introduced to the basic accounting equation, learn to use debits and credits, and learn to use journal entries with examples using Excel. Common student fears such as math, rules, and debits and credits will be discussed, and the perception and reality of the profession will be explored. Additionally, key terms such as transaction and account will be discussed, and the major two accounting reports that are taught in school will be covered. Finally, the accounting equation and journal entries will be discussed. No prerequisite is required for this course.
