For those looking to become a texture artist, the learning curve can be daunting. Deciding which software to use can be a difficult task, as each software package has its own strengths, weaknesses, and price points. Two of the most popular pieces of software for this purpose are Substance Painter and Quixel Mixer.

In this course, learners will explore the workflow of both Substance Painter and Quixel Mixer. The first step in the process is baking the maps for the low-resolution mesh. This involves using a piece of software to create a series of images that capture specific details from the high-resolution mesh. These maps can be the object’s thickness in certain places, its curvature or its surface normals.

The maps are then used to generate procedurally generated masks, which dictate whether or not the masked layer is visible or not. This is known as Procedural Texturing, and it is one of the central pillars of any modern texturing process.

By the end of the course, learners will have a better understanding of the workflow of both Substance Painter and Quixel Mixer, and will be able to make an informed decision on which software to use. Join the ultimate Substance Painter course here: https://bit.ly/31QPGlq.
