This course provides an overview of Microbiology and Forensic Science. Students will learn about bacterial cell structure and function, viruses and their structure, how Forensic Microbiology has evolved, different types of Forensic Microbiology, differences in Forensic Science versus Forensic Microbiology, how to read a scientific journal and review one in a case study, genotyping techniques, the role of DNA and RNA in Microbiology and Forensic Science. Potential careers in this field include Molecular Laboratory Technician, Forensic Scientist, Forensic Studies, Teacher of Microbiology, and Teacher of Forensic Scientist.

[Applications]

Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of the fundamentals of Microbiology and Forensic Science, and will be able to apply this knowledge to their future studies and careers. They will be able to use the knowledge gained to identify and analyze microbial samples, and to understand the role of DNA and RNA in Microbiology and Forensic Science. Additionally, they will be able to read and review scientific journals, and to apply the techniques learned in the course to their own research.

[Career Paths]
Molecular Laboratory Technician: Molecular laboratory technicians are responsible for performing laboratory tests and experiments to analyze and identify the presence of microorganisms. They use a variety of techniques such as PCR, ELISA, and DNA sequencing to identify and characterize microorganisms. This job is expected to grow in demand as the need for more accurate and reliable testing increases.

Forensic Scientist: Forensic scientists are responsible for analyzing evidence collected from crime scenes and other sources. They use a variety of techniques such as DNA analysis, fingerprinting, and toxicology to identify and analyze evidence. This job is expected to grow in demand as the need for more accurate and reliable evidence analysis increases.

Forensic Studies: Forensic studies involve the application of scientific principles and techniques to the investigation of criminal activity. This field is expected to grow in demand as the need for more accurate and reliable evidence analysis increases.

Teacher of Microbiology: Teachers of microbiology are responsible for teaching students about the structure and function of microorganisms, as well as the techniques used to identify and characterize them. This job is expected to grow in demand as the need for more accurate and reliable teaching increases.

Teacher of Forensic Scientist: Teachers of forensic science are responsible for teaching students about the principles and techniques used to analyze evidence collected from crime scenes and other sources. This job is expected to grow in demand as the need for more accurate and reliable teaching increases.
