This course provides an introductory overview of audio synthesis and visual programming using Native Instruments' Reaktor Software. Students will gain an understanding of various audio synthesis methods, including additive, subtractive, sampling, wavetable, physical modeling, and granular synthesis, as well as the different types of modulation synthesis. Additionally, the course will cover the history of the synthesizer and electronic music, and will explore current sound design trends in electronic music.
Topics covered include sound and waveform characteristics (Timbre), modulation/filters/envelopes, MIDI/OSC, analog and digital signals, signal flow, DAWs/sequencing, sound design, audio effects, production techniques, and audio warping/FFT.
