This free online course, Monitoring Climate from Space, provides an overview of satellite Earth observation technology and its role in climate change. Participants will join leading experts and scientists from ESA and key European research centres to explore the science that underpins Earth observation. The course consists of five themed weeks, covering topics such as Earth observation techniques and technology, Earth observation in action, and managing Earth observation data. Participants will gain a better insight into how satellite data can help them assess the state of our climate and its changes, in order to support climate science, and adaptation and mitigation decisions.

[Applications]
Upon completion of this course, learners can apply their knowledge to assess the state of the climate and its changes, support climate science, and make decisions related to adaptation and mitigation. They can also use the data from satellite Earth observation to inform policy and planning, and to develop climate change models. Additionally, learners can use the course materials to educate and communicate to others about Earth observation and climate change.

[Career Path]
Job Position Path:
The job position path recommended for learners of this course is a Climate Change Monitoring Scientist. This position involves using satellite Earth Observation technology to monitor climate change and its effects on the environment. The job requires a deep understanding of Earth Observation techniques and technology, as well as the ability to interpret and analyze data to inform policy and planning decisions. The development trend for this position is that it is becoming increasingly important as climate change continues to be a major global issue. As such, the demand for Climate Change Monitoring Scientists is expected to increase in the coming years.

[Education Path]
Educational Path:

For learners interested in pursuing a degree in Monitoring Climate from Space, a Bachelor's degree in Earth Science or Environmental Science is recommended. This degree will provide a comprehensive overview of the Earth's climate, its components, and the various methods used to monitor and measure climate change. The degree will also cover topics such as atmospheric science, oceanography, geology, and meteorology. Additionally, students will learn about the various technologies used to monitor climate from space, such as satellites, remote sensing, and data analysis.

The development trend for this degree is to focus on the application of Earth Science and Environmental Science to the study of climate change. This includes the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics to better understand the Earth's climate and its changes. Additionally, the degree will focus on the development of new methods and technologies to monitor climate from space, as well as the development of new strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
