This course, Hollywood: History Industry Art, provides an overview of the Hollywood film industry from the 1920s to the present day. Students will explore the complex relationship between business, politics, and art in the film industry, and how Hollywood has responded to new technologies such as synchronized sound, color cinematography, TV, home video, computer graphics, and the internet. The course will also examine the global spread of Hollywood since the 1920s and its impact on the film industry, as well as the relationship between Hollywood and independent film. Additionally, students will learn about Hollywood’s responses to crises in American politics, such as world wars, the cold war, the 1960s counterculture, and 9/11. Representative studios (Paramount, Disney, Fox, and others) and filmmakers (Mary Pickford, Charles Chaplin, Frank Capra, George Lucas, Spike Lee, among many others) will be discussed in detail.

Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of the history, industry, and art of Hollywood. They will be able to apply this knowledge to analyze the impact of Hollywood on the global film industry, as well as the influence of politics and technology on the art of film. Additionally, students will be able to identify and discuss the contributions of key filmmakers and studios to the development of Hollywood.

They are responsible for selecting the best takes, cutting out unnecessary footage, and ensuring that the film flows smoothly. They are responsible for creating realistic environments, animating characters, and creating other effects that enhance the film.
