To enhance scholarship opportunities for persons with mental challenges who aspire and have the potential to succeed in undertaking college/university course work at either the undergraduate or graduate level. The program is intended to offer scholarship grants annually to persons selected by a committee for awards.

The Horatio Alger Association, through the generosity of its members, provides aid to students in all states who have displayed integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity and demonstrate critical financial need.

Providing scholarship support for college-bound graduating seniors of Collinwood High School. Must have a 2.5 GPA. Selection decisions are based on academic merit, community involvement, leadership, and financial need. Preference given to African-Americans and individuals with a skill/interest in violence mediation/prevention.

Providing scholarship support for an African-American female sophomore at Cuyahoga Community College's Metropolitan Campus who has demonstrated academic excellence in the humanities (excluding education or physical sciences) and is matriculating to an upper-division college or university. Selection decisions are based on academic excellence in the humanities. Renewable for one additional year.
