Description

The purpose of the program is to provide grant aid to students with financial need who are enrolled in public two-year community colleges, public technical colleges or public state colleges in Texas. Funding is limited. Applicants must: - Be classified by the institution as a Texas resident - Show financial need - Have applied foe any available financial aid - Register for the Selective Service, unless exempt - Be enrolled at least half time as an undergraduate at an eligible 2-year institution. - Not have attempted more than 30 semester credit hours (excluding credits for dual enrollment or by examination) - Not have already earned an associates or baccalaureate degree - Not be concurrently receiving a TEXAS Grant - Not have been convicted of: Any felony; or Any offense under the law of any jurisdiction involving a controlled substance as defined by the Health and Safety Code Chapter 481, Texas Controlled Substances Act. Students continuing in college and who meet program academic standards can receive awards as well. The academic requirements for continuing in the program are listed on the website.

Available to eligible students with financial need, who are enrolled at a private non-profit Texas college or university and are required to pay more tuition than they would pay to attend a public institution. Additional Eligibility requirements: - Be classified by the institution as a Texas resident - Be enrolled at least 3/4 time in an eligible institution in Texas in a degree plan leading to a first associate, baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree (excluding degree plans that are intended to lead to religious ministry) - Meet all academic program requirements - Have financial need - Not have earned a degree for which they are currently enrolled - Not be a recipient of an athletic scholarship (i.e., the student is obliged to play an intercollegiate sport as a result of receiving the scholarship) during the semester (s) TEG is awarded. - May be required to pay more tuition than is required at a comparable public institution - Be registered for Selective Service or be exempt For information on the current TEG amount available at an eligible private or independent institution, please contact the Financial Aid Office at the institution where you are enrolled or plan to enroll.
