If you are an active member in the California National Guard, the State Military Reserve, or the Naval Militia you may be eligible for a state-funded program designed to provide an educational incentive to improve your skills, competencies, and abilities.

Scholarships are awarded to women who are non-traditional students who have experienced challenges in life and education that differ from the traditional 4-year path. Applicants must be 23 years of age or older. Must live or attend school in north San Diego County, including northern city of San Diego.

If you are or were in foster care and have financial need, you may qualify for up to $5,000 a year for career and technical training or college. You don't have to pay this money back. You may also be able to use your grant to help pay for child care, transportation and rent while you're in school. You can use your Chafee Grant at any eligible California college or university or career or technical school, as well as schools in other states.
