Designed to encourage primary care physicians to establish practices in rural areas of Kansas. Recipients return one year of practice for each year of assistance.

This service merit-based obligation scholarship program provides financial assistance to both students pursuing bachelor's degree programs and currently licensed teachers pursuing endorsement in hard-to-fill disciplines or master's degrees in hard-to-fill disciplines or either group planning to teach (K-12) in an underserved geographic area in Kansas.

This assistance program is available to students enrolled full-time or part-time at accredited independent colleges and universities located in Kansas and Kansas public postsecondary institutions: the six state universities, Washburn University, community colleges and technical colleges. Must be an enlisted member of a Kansas Air/Army National Guard unit and upon completion of last semester of tuition assistance, member will serve an additional 24 months in the Kansas National Guard.

The Horatio Alger Association, through the generosity of its members, provides aid to students in all states who have displayed integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity and demonstrate critical financial need.
